Cricket Formats and Tournaments — Where Betting Differs

In Bangladesh, cricket is more than a sport — it is a passion. The three formats — T20, ODI and Test — each have their own pace, character and betting experience.

T20: Matches in this short format end quickly, so markets shift fast. Franchise tournaments like BPL and IPL, as well as the T20 World Cup, are played in this format. Bangladesh Tigers matches attract the most interest from Bangladeshi supporters.

ODI: Fifty-over cricket requires both strategy and patience. A match runs for five to eight hours, bringing many twists for live betting.

Test: In five-day cricket a draw is possible, so there are separate odds for three outcomes (Team A win, Team B win, draw) — this is fundamentally different from T20 or ODI.

In football — especially the Premier League or the World Cup — betting markets differ from cricket because matches last ninety minutes and goals are relatively few. In other sports — volleyball, tennis, badminton — point-based scoring changes the number and type of markets available. At taka bad, markets for all these sports are available in one place.

Popular Betting Markets — How Each One Works

There are many types of markets in cricket betting, each with its own rules. Seven markets are explained below.

Match Winner

You choose which team will win the match — Team A or Team B. There is no draw in T20 or ODI, so there are only two options. In Test, a draw is also an option.

Toss Winner

You can bet on which team will win the toss before the match begins. This is the simplest market — the result is confirmed as soon as the toss happens.

Top Batsman

This market is about choosing which batsman from a given team will score the most runs in a specific innings or across the whole match. A retired-hurt batsman is generally not counted — check the rules to be sure.

Total Runs Over / Under

The bookmaker sets a number — such as the total runs in the first innings. You bet on whether the actual total will be more (over) or less (under) than that number. You are only choosing a direction, not the exact run total.

Multi Bet

Adding multiple selections to the same betting slip creates a multi bet. The combined odds increase, but if any one selection is wrong, the entire stake is lost. Example: picking Team A, Team B and Team A across three different matches.

Handicap

To reduce the difference in strength between two teams, the weaker team is given a notional run advantage. In handicap betting, the adjusted result — not the actual score — is what counts.

Beyond sports betting, taka bad also has crash bonus games — where you bet on how high a multiplier will climb. This category is separate from sports — details are available on the crash bonus page.

How to Read Odds — Three Formats

The value of the same market can be written in three different ways. Understanding all three formats makes it easy to bet on any betting site.

Format Example: Team A wins Meaning
Decimal 3.00 Total return = 3 times the stake
Fractional 2/1 ৳2 profit for every ৳1 staked
American +200 ৳200 profit on a ৳100 stake

Example 1 (non-favourite team): Team A to win — Decimal 3.00, Fractional 2/1, American +200. A ৳500 bet returns ৳1,500 in total if won (৳1,000 profit + ৳500 original stake); ৳500 is lost if wrong.

Example 2 (favourite team): Team B to win — Decimal 1.50, Fractional 1/2, American -200 (minus odds show how much you need to stake to make ৳100 in profit). A ৳500 bet returns ৳750 if won (৳250 profit).

The team names in both examples are arbitrary — they are only to illustrate the formats, not actual odds or any guarantee.

Live In-Play Betting — Odds Shift with Wickets and Overs

Betting while a match is in progress is a different experience from pre-match betting. Odds are recalculated after every ball, wicket and run — sometimes quickly, sometimes gradually.

Suppose the batting team is scoring fast and the bowling team has lost several wickets — at that moment the batting team's odds of winning shorten (they become favourites) and the bowling team's odds lengthen. The reverse is also true: a sudden wicket can change the picture completely.

In Test cricket the picture can change many times over five days. In T20, the final two overs can swing the match quickly. In live betting, it is important to take each decision calmly rather than rushing.

In-play markets include more than just the match winner: runs in the next over, when the next wicket will fall, run limits for the current batsman, and more. Log in to taka bad to view live markets directly.

Multi Bets and Betting Exchange — How They Work

Multi Bet Example

Suppose you make three selections across three different matches — with decimal odds of 1.40, 1.50 and 1.70 respectively. The combined odds are 1.40 × 1.50 × 1.70 = 3.57 (approximately). A ৳100 stake returns ৳357 if all three win. But if even one selection is wrong, the full ৳100 is lost.

A multi bet can pay out more, but the risk is also greater — every selection must be correct at the same time.

Betting Exchange

On an exchange you bet against other bettors, not against the bookmaker. There are two roles:

BACK: You believe Team A will win, so you stake ৳500 at decimal odds of 2.00. If Team A wins, you make ৳500 profit (before commission); if they lose, you lose ৳500.

LAY: You believe Team A will not win, so you stand against a backer's ৳500 stake. If Team A does not win, you make ৳500 profit; if Team A wins, you pay out ৳500.

Practical Tips for Betting — Things to Keep in Mind

Betting is for entertainment — it is not a guaranteed way to make money. Keeping a few things in mind makes the experience easier.

01

Start with one type of market

Starting with simple markets like match winner or toss helps you understand how things work. After a few matches you can move on to more complex markets.

02

Set a budget

Decide in advance how much you will spend per month or per week. Staying within that limit is the sensible approach. Follow the responsible gaming policy.

03

Choose markets based on the format

In T20, "total runs over/under" is more relevant; in Test, the match winner market is different because a draw is included. Choosing markets with the format in mind makes decisions easier.

04

Avoid rushing in live betting

Odds change fast in in-play betting. Rather than reacting immediately, read the situation first and then place your bet.

05

Read the terms and conditions

The rules for each market can differ — especially what happens to your bet if a match is cancelled or abandoned. Check the terms and conditions before betting.

Frequently Asked Questions

In T20, matches are short so markets change every over and there are more in-play options. In ODI, separate markets open at different stages of the longer match. In Test, there are markets for three outcomes including a draw, which T20 and ODI do not have. Overall, T20 offers the most live markets.

Most Bangladeshi bettors find decimal odds simpler — multiply the odds by your stake to get the total return. For example, at odds of 3.00, a ৳500 bet returns ৳1,500 in total. With fractional odds (such as 2/1), the first number is profit and the second is the stake — so a ৳500 bet gives ৳1,000 in profit.

Both BPL and IPL are T20 franchise tournaments, but they differ in number of teams and matches. IPL is the larger league, so it generally offers more variety in markets. BPL features more Bangladeshi players, which draws greater interest from local supporters. The types of markets in both leagues are the same — match winner, toss, top batsman, and so on.

In a multi bet, if even one selection is wrong, the entire stake is lost. For example, if three selections have decimal odds of 1.40, 1.50 and 1.70, the combined odds come to roughly 3.57. A ৳100 stake returns ৳357 if all three win. But if one loses, the full ৳100 is gone — the risk is higher than with a single bet.

When a wicket falls for the batting team, their odds of winning generally rise — meaning the bookmaker views them as less of a favourite. The bowling team's odds shorten. However, if the batting team is scoring quickly at the same time, the impact of the wicket may be reduced. Odds are recalculated after every ball, so understanding the flow of the match matters in live betting.
